Alphonso Mango Crop 2024
In 2024, we started producing Alphonso Mango Puree in the first week of May and completed the production by mid-June.
Fruit Sourcing Regions: Tamil Nadu and Karnataka
Karnataka: Benefitting from substantial rainfall and extensive cultivation, Karnataka saw improved crop availability this year. However, total production remained 15%-20% Lower than last year due to poor fruit setting.
Tamil Nadu: Conversely, Tamil Nadu faced challenges with significantly lower crop availability compared to the previous year. Persistent extreme heat resulted in continued fruit drop, decreasing overall crop availability by 20-30% compared to the last crop year.
Impact of Weather on Yield, Price, and Quality
Yield: This year, overall crop availability decreased by 20-30% due to adverse weather.
Price: The fruit price in the market increased by 20-30% compared to last year, driven by heightened demand in the fresh fruit market.
Quality: Alphonso mangoes this year exhibited a superior quality with brix of 18, enhanced color and flavor profile due to reduced fruit moisture.
Market Conditions
This year, the Alphonso Mango Puree has significantly higher demand compared to the previous year. Despite a notable increase of 20 to 30% in product prices compared to last year, the market has been ready to accept the new crop.
Totapuri Mango Crop 2024
In 2024, we began production for Totapuri mango in the beginning of June and completed it by the end of June with a shorter crop of only 1 month.
Fruit Sourcing Region: Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh
Tamil Nadu: The crop faced challenges due to late flowering and heat waves during the fruit-setting stage. Additionally, prolonged dry weather without rainfall over the past 5 months hindered fruit growth, exacerbated by increased pest attacks such as thrips affecting mango orchards.
Andhra Pradesh: In Chittoor and Kadapa districts, this year’s mango yield was lower than last year due to minimal monsoon rainfall, resulting in reduced flowering and increased vegetative growth. Additionally, the unusually low monsoon rains intensified pest attacks such as thrips and hopper pests on the flowers, further reducing fruit settings across all regions.
Impact of Weather on Yield, Price, and Quality
Yield: The crop yield decreased by 40-50% compared to last year due to adverse weather conditions, resulting in significant fruit drop during development.
Price: A dry spell this season caused a 30-40% crop price increase driven by poor harvests.
Quality: This year, Totapuri mangoes showed an average quality with Brix of 15, maintaining similar color and flavor profile.
Market Conditions:
- This year, Totapuri mango puree/concentrate faced lower market demand compared to the previous year, influenced by existing stocks from last year in the market with lower prices.
- Prices for the 2024 crop increased by 20 to 30%, but market acceptance of these higher prices remains cautious, with hopes for improvement as the market stabilizes.
Conclusion:
In 2024, India continues to lead global mango production despite challenges like adverse weather and reduced yields. ABC FRUITS contributes to this legacy with premium organic mango pulp and concentrates, showcasing the excellence of Alphonso and Totapuri varieties.
